Roaming dragons and knights training celebrate St George's Day in Derby

The annual St George’s Day celebrations will take place in the city centre on Saturday 20 April.
The two-hour programme includes have-a-go workshops where participants can train as brave and chivalrous knights with the help of instruction from The Lost Boys and Team Falchion. There will be displays of armour and medieval combat too.

Hide AdKicking off at 12 noon at the Waterfall in Derby Market Place, the event will open with The Lost Boys recreating St George defeating the dragon in combat during a 10-minute tongue-in cheek performance. AVP Theatre’s puppet show will recreate the St George and the Dragon story as a family-friendly fairytale.
Family crafts including rhe creation of dragons and flags will be run by Scraggy Moo at St Peter’s Cross between 12 noon and 2pm.
Councillor Nadine Peatfield, cabinet member for city centre, regeneration, culture and tourism on Derby City Council, said: “As ever, Derby is proud to celebrate St George’s Day with a whole host of family friendly activities that will bring the story of our patron saint to life. We’re delighted to have such vibrant mix of groups and performers taking part in what is sure to be an excellent event.”
