They lead 3-0 going into the break before seeing the job through in the second half to claim the win in the Derbyshire Women’s Hockey League Division One clash.

But Elliot felt the nerves were only setted for her side after Lindsay Vaughan got them up and running.

“Playing against a team in your club is never easy,” she said. “We were high from a great win the week before and we wanted to keep that going.

“We started the match slowly and were pretty sloppy.

“This didn’t really settle until we scored our first goal, when afterwards our passing improved and we started to work together as a team.

Chesterfield 2s put in a strong fight and battled hard throughout, which shows the progress all the players have made so far this season.

“We’re obviously pleased to take the win however it comes. The beauty of this team, as I’ve said previously, is that we’re developing each week, mistakes are going to happen and we are going to have off days and that’s absolutely fine.”

The club’s men’s first-team made it a good week after picking up their first win of the season following a 4-2 win at home to Warwick on Saturday.

The visitors took an early lead but the hosts kept their cool and gradually took control of the game with a high tempo, physical performance.

Goals from Jack Hartley (2), Cameron Geimer and Man of the Match Joe Green sealed a vital three points for the home team.

Captain Jon Moores said: “Results haven’t gone our way so far this season but we’ve actually played pretty well.

"It was nice for it to all come together and we should definitely have scored more goals.

"The game should have been done and dusted before half time but the key thing is we didn’t panic, even when they got back into it at 3-2. We held our nerve and kept playing.”

Next week Chesterfield travel to Streetly, another newly promoted club, with Moores expecting a tough test.

He added: “Don’t be fooled by the fact they’ve lost all three games, Streetly are a good side that we know well. It’s going to be tough.”
