The Spireites will be favourites to finish first now that Wrexham and Notts County have been promoted to League Two.

The Blues are hurting right now after losing to Notts County on penalties in the play-off final last Saturday but, once the dust settles, the mission for next year is clear.

“If we ever come back here (Wembley) again, we have got to make sure we are not on the losing side,” Webb told BBC Radio Sheffield. “Or even better, we have got to go and win the league next year because we don’t want to go through this again. Wrexham have gone, Notts County have gone, we have got to make sure we win this league next year.”

There is talk about an extra promotion spot being awarded to the National League but it seems unlikely that will happen before next season.

“We can bang the drum about how there should be more teams (from this league) getting promoted but until that point we have got to win this league,” Webb continued. “Wrexham had heartache last year and then they went and won it this year. Notts County have had a few disappointments in the play-offs and obviously now they are up.

“This (losing in a play-off final at Wembley) is a horrible way to lose and the best way to get promotion is to be champions.”

The new National League season starts on August 5 and the fixtures will be out about a month before - but no date has officially been confirmed yet.

Webb added: “This is going to hurt for a while but, at some point, you do have to look forward to next season. And, as I say, second and third for me - no - we have got to go and win it.”
