The 20-year-old had been on trial with Chesterfield and played in this afternoon’s friendly game against Hartlepool United.

He broke in to the first team at Bramall Lane towards the end of the 2013/14 season and has made five appearances for the Blades.

Dimaio has also represented Republic of Ireland at under-19s level and is described on Sheffield United’s official club website as a “technically sound midfielder, Connor is a creative ball player, who is also capable of making a tackle.”

Dimaio is well known to Spireites first team coach Chris Morgan, who spent over a decade at United.

Spireites manager Danny Wilson believes Dimaio has a bright future.

He said: “Connor has fitted in well with us in training and we feel he’s got a lot of potential.”
