Russia rated 6/1 to be stripped of 2018 World Cup after crowd trouble
Russia are 6/1 to be stripped of the 2018 World Cup following the havoc caused by Russian hooligans at Euro 2016.
Bookies BoyleSports have priced up a market on whether the next World Cup will remain in Russia with the odds of 1/12 suggesting that FIFA won’t take the competition away from the country.
Its 6/1 that the 2018 World Cup will be taken away from Russia and hosted in another country.
Liam Glynn, BoyleSports’ spokesperson said: “Some Russian football fans have not done their country any justice by partaking in riots on the streets of France and as a result FIFA will now seriously have to review whether the country is suitable to host the 2018 World Cup.”
He added “Despite all the trouble caused by Russian followers, it would be a logistical nightmare to rearrange the 2018 World Cup so our traders believe that the country will hold on to the tournament as suggested by the short odds of 1/12.
“No doubt FIFA will have to put severe rules in place to curb misbehaviour at the tournament in 2018.
