Lewis Weaver hit the winner ten minutes from time as the Lions bounced back from a midweek defeat to Sherwood Colliery.

It capped a decent week for the club with two wins from three games and improved performance levels.

“It was a very good win,” said Clarence. “Today to a man we were excellent which is pleasing.

“The graft we showed on Wednesday was there and the desire to put bodies on the line, as well as that big of quality to go get a goal was there today.

“We had six squad members unavailable, but we had bodies back and those lads made a difference.

“We knew a couple of weeks ago, after we had had some bad results, that it was going to be tough playing three top teams in a row.

“I set a marker to get nine points from the games and we got six.

“Although it is not the standards we set, we would take that after the start to the season we have had.

“We were excellent on Wednesday night. Sherwood are favourites for the league and we are rebuilding, so 4-3 wasn’t the worst result on paper, but it’s not a result I like because we lost.”

And Clarence now feels his players have laid a platform to build upon.

“The performance levels are pleasing and the work-rate is there, so that is something we can build on,” he said.

“I’ve seen light at the end of the tunnel. If you have graft the quality will shine through.”
