“We showed them the respect we felt that they deserved but I am not 100 per cent sure they showed us the same respect
“I don’t know what preparation they did but they certainly know now we are a good side.”
Asante celebrated his new contract with his 10th goal in 14 league games three minutes after the break following an excellent through-ball by Whelan.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game but we felt that if we performed to our maximum that we were capable of winning the game,” Foster explained.
“I think the lads have answered all the questions today with their performance.
“We felt we could have moved the ball better, which we did in the second half.

On Whelan, Foster said: “He is just a bag of energy. He must be the only player in the country that you actually sometimes say to him ‘stand still’. You wind him up and he just keeps going doesn’t he? Unbelievable. He just keeps going and he got his just reward in the end, a superb finish.”
And on Asante, he added: “The boy is a quality player, there is no doubt about that. He scores all sorts of goals, he is a quality centre forward.”
