The Chesterfield-born player, who has been with the club since under-13 level, said: "It would mean a lot. It would be great if on our 150th year we can have a good year.

"Obviously last season we did pretty well in the Championship and got to (T20) Finals Day.

"Our aim is definitely to try to get promoted (from Division Two). If we could do that in the 150th year it would just top everything off."

He said it would mean everything to the members to taste success in the anniversary year and then play at a higher level if they won promotion.

"They have stuck with us through thick and thin over the years. We have had good times and we have had bad times.

"It would mean everything to them if we could get promoted and play in the First Division."

Reflecting on the 150-year anniversary, Hosain, who lives in Matlock, added: " think the club means a great deal to everybody around this area, and the wider community as well.

“Everybody follows the cricket, everybody wants to see Derbyshire doing well, and the guys that they have built up a relationship with, doing well.

“I think it would mean a lot if we went out this season and performed really well.”

The club was founded by Walter Boden on 4th November, 1870, and past and present players will be part of several celebratory events.

The club is working closely with former stars to organise a legends team for a special match during the Chesterfield Festival of Cricket.

A service will be held at Derby Cathedral, while parts of the club’s heritage will be preserved in a time capsule.

A special gala dinner will also be held to mark the year and limited edition merchandise, such as clothing and badges, will be produced.

As part of the celebrations, the club has commissioned a limited edition anniversary book: A Celebration of Derbyshire County Cricket Club.
