RETRO VIDEO: 1925 Chesterfield golf champ and her trophy

As the world watched Danny Willet win the US Masters golf tournament at the weekend it seemed right to reflect on Chesterfield's own golfing success.

Nostalgic footage from British Pathe shows Enid Wilson of Chesterfield in 1925 aged just 15, at the start of her career when she won a tournament in Buckinghamshire.

Following this win she went on to become a semi-finalist at her first British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship in 1927 and won the Championship three years in a row between 1931 and 1933.

Competing in the 1931 US Women’s Amateur, Wilson was eliminated in the semi-finals by ultimate champion Helen Hicks. However, the next year when she beat Hicks two and one in their match during the first ever Curtis Cup held at the Wentworth Golf Club, in Surrey, England.

She returned to the US for the 1932 Amateur but went out in the quarter-final. In the 1933 US Amateur she lost in the semi-finals to the ultimate tournament champion Virginia Van Wie but won the medal for lowest round with a record-setting score.
