Amy Binney said: “My nan tried to hand a purse with £500 in to the police station she had found but they told her that they don’t deal with lost and found.
"With a lot of hard work we tracked the person down.”
However, other residents said she had ‘simply done what anyone would have’.
Janet Leslie posted: “I wouldn’t expect a reward for doing the right thing. We’ve found phones, a couple of handbags and a credit card on separate occasions. Always managed to reunite them with their owners.

The SNT said the owner of the money had dropped it on her way home from shopping in the town.
“Despite all the problems around us, it is nice to see that honesty and integrity is still alive and kicking on our doorsteps,” an SNT spokesperson added.
