Tributes to 'lovely man' after body found in Chesterfield

Police searching for missing man Allan Greaves revealed that mountain rescue team volunteers, who were supporting officers, had discovered a body in a field on Wednesday afternoon.

Mr Greaves, who was 61, had last been seen at his home on Poolsbrook Avenue, Poolsbrook, at about 6.40am on Wednesday.

Chesterfield residents reacted with shock to the news yesterday, and condolences to Mr Greaves’ family poured in on social media.

Others shared their memories of Mr Greaves and paid tribute to him as a ‘lovely man’ and a ‘gentleman’.

Anita Brough posted on the Derbyshire Times’ Facebook page: “Deepest condolences to Sue and family. R.I.P Allan, such a lovely man.”

Craig Mason said: “Remember him from when I was young. R.I.P bless him. Thoughts with his family.”

Sharney Taylor posted: “R.I.P Allan you are sadly missed.”

And Sharian Sanderson added: “RIP to this gentleman. Thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”

Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team for Staveley said Mr Greaves’ next of kin ‘had been informed and are being supported’.

Emma Greaves posted on the police team’s Facebook page: “I just want to thank all police and everyone else for what they did yesterday for my dad.”

Jack Bignell described Mr Greaves as ‘such a nice bloke’, while Jayne Bagshaw said ‘her thoughts went to out’ to his family.

Jaqui Shaw posted: “Such sad and tragic news, not the outcome any one wanted, so sorry for your loss.”
