Ten-year-old Sonny Shaw, of Dewley Way, Clay Cross, raised nearly £600 for the Royal British Legion with the challenge.

Sporty Sonny played rugby until quite recently when he had to give up the game as he has cochlear implants for his deafness.

His dad Jim said: “Having cycled 200 miles in April – along with his brother Kerrigan who completed 300 miles – Sonny accepted a challenge to run 100km in the month of May.

“He decided it would be great to raise some money at the same time as keeping fit while his running club is on lockdown.

“He ran just over 100km, starting on May 1 and finishing last Friday with an early morning 10km to finish the challenge.

“He had never previously run 10km – so that in itself was a great achievement.”

Jim added: “Through a combination of online donations through his JustGiving page and a good old-fashioned sponsorship form, Sonny has raised almost £600 so far for the Royal British Legion.

“Myself and my wife Nichola and all the family are so proud of his achievements and his fundraising efforts.

“The running challenge unsurprisingly got quite monotonous and tough, especially during the middle phase, but Sonny showed great determination and grit to battle on through to successfully achieve the 100km target with a couple of days to spare.”
