The car park, which will have space for 68 vehicles, is to be located at the junction of Mill Street, Station Road and Corporation Street on the site of the former Derbyshire Times office.
Chesterfield Borough Council’s planning chiefs have given applicants Ban Park Ltd, of Sheffield, permission to develop the car park in a bid to ‘bring active use to a currently derelict site in the town centre’.

“The building was demolished and the site is currently vacant, temporary fencing is present enclosing the site boundary.”
Chesterfield Civic Society said it was ‘very happy’ to support the application, which will ‘help to improve the appearance of the approach to the town centre from the station for a few years until the site is redeveloped’.
Bank Parking Limited says a percentage of all parking fees will go to Ashgate Hospicecare in the town.
