Memorial to remember coronavirus victims will be set up in Chesterfield

The memorial will also recognise the work of the borough’s key workers and volunteers during the crisis.
Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of the council, said: “Coronavirus has had a huge impact on our communities with many people experiencing the devastating loss of family members and friends as a result of the pandemic.

Hide Ad“We feel that it is important to establish a lasting memorial to those who have sadly lost their lives but also to recognise and thank our remarkable key workers and volunteers who continue to work so hard in support of our residents and communities."
A council spokesperson added: “Plans are at an early stage and will involve the development of a variety of options to create a lasting memorial for future generations to visit, reflect and remember.
“Chesterfield Borough Council will release further information on emerging options and ways for the public to get involved in the autumn.”
In total, 130 people have sadly died at Chesterfield Royal Hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

Hide AdAccording to the most recent information provided by the Royal, 292 Covid-19 patients have been able to return home since the end of March after being cared for at the hospital.
With the easing of lockdown restrictions in England this weekend, the hospital is urging people to follow the national guidance and to stay alert, control the virus and save lives.
