LETTER: Fond memories of my time at Derbyshire Times

Your article regarding the demolition of the former Derbyshire Times buildings also triggered memories for me as a retired employee of 20 years.

I started work for the Derbyshire Times in 1966 when the owners were the Edmunds family of whom I have very fond memories. For a good number of years I acted as chauffeur to the family as well as van driving.

In 1967, I also became caretaker for the Derbyshire Times premises and lived with my family in a flat above the offices and got to know every nook and cranny of the various departments and buildings.

As a van driver I delivered the Derbyshire Times newspaper to newsagents all over Derbyshire, but what some readers may not realise is that the company also did commercial printing and the van drivers regularly delivered to many parts of the country, including London. I worked for the company for 30 years until retirement in 1996. I will be very sorry to see this old Chesterfield landmark disappear.
