LETTER: Don't use emergency vehicles as excuse for pavement parking
In the Derbyshire Times on April 19, I was pleased to read the Department for Transport is considering proposals to bring England and Wales in line with London and impose fines of £70 for parking partially or wholly on pavements.
I recently wrote to the Derbyshire Times about the same problem in Chesterfield and from my observation recently nothing has changed.
If the excuse for parking on pavements is to leave space for emergency vehicles and refuse collection vehicles, then it is a poor excuse and councils should mark the roads with double yellow lines to prevent parking anywhere on those roads.

Hide AdI have seen cars on Chatsworth Road park on the pavement just to escape parking within the zig zag lines of pedestrian crossings.
