‘Messy’ skatepark comes under fire

Donna Watts said: “It’s disgusting down there.
“When I’ve walked past before there was a mattress there.
“It’s not a pleasant site that’s for sure.”
Katerina Roberts said: “With a bit of imagination, proper planning and facilities, the area could be turned into a pleasant walkway and park.”
Responding to this story on the Derbyshire Times’ website, one skateboarder from Chesterfield said yobs were to blame for the mess.
He commented: “We have to sweep the entire skatepark of smashed glass, bottles and stones every morning before anyone can ride on it.”

Hide AdAnother user added: “It’s not the skateboarders who make it look so bad – it’s the people who get drunk and break their bottles here.”
Henry Boot Developments, which owns the land, have not yet responded to requests for a comment.
A spokesman for Chesterfield Borough Council said its litter pickers carry out daily collections around the site.
