Man charged with Alfreton pub assault

A man has been charged with assault following an incident outside a pub in Alfreton which left a man with face and eye injuries.

At around 7.20pm on Friday, March 4, police were called to High Street following reports that a group of men had assaulted a man at the Blue Bell Inn outdoor smoking area.

It is thought that the 47-year-old was struck with some sort of implement in an unprovoked attack. He remains in hospital with significant facial and eye injuries.

Ryan Munton, aged 22, of Western Avenue, Swanwick has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon in public.

He will appear at Chesterfield Justice Centre today (Monday, March 7).

Police made an appeal over the weekend to trace a woman who may have witnessed the incident. She has now come forward and police would like to thank her for getting in touch.
