Flood alert in place for Derbyshire
The Environment Agency has warned residents that flooding is possible at the River Wye today (December 17).
River levels are forecast to rise at the Ashford river gauge as a result of further rainfall tonight and throughout tomorrow.
Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible overnight and tomorrow, Friday December 18.
Areas most at risk are low-lying agricultural land and roads including Ashford and Bakewell areas. Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours.
River levels are epected to remain high until Sunday 20/12/20.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are patrolling watercourses in the area. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses, plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast.”
The Environment Agency will update with more information tomorrow morning, or as the situation changes.
