Derbyshire teacher 'stabbed in the back' over £3,500 redundancy package

Ken Waite, 59, of Langley Mill is protesting outside the school every morning, claiming he was pushed out of his job without redundancy.

He said: "I've been forced out, I was offered voluntary redundancy which they withdrew at the very last second and said I could work in the lower school at half the contract rate, and it was take it or leave it."

The teacher of six-years at the school was supposed to leave with around £3,500 slightly before taking his full retirement package, and instead of taking the school's offer of carrying on working only two days a week, he will have to take a reduced pension.

He added: "I was so close to retirement, so voluntary redundancy would make like easier for them, and then they stabbed me in the back and forced me out."

Ken, a grandfather to 11 taught electrical engineering at the school form GCSE up to apprenticeship level, and is one of around 30 teachers who has left school, and among five who are believed to have been stripped of their redundancy.

"You feel like you're fighting the establishment - I'm going to have to take this reduced pension and live off savings. I'll survive," added Ken.A spokesperson for the school said: “Up until 31 August 2015 Mr Waite was employed as a teacher at Aldercar High School.

“Following a whole school staffing restructure Mr Waite took the decision to resign from his post.

“The headteacher and governors are satisfied that this matter has been dealt with appropriately.”
