Cyclist seriously hurt in Chesterfield hit and run - everything we know so far

A cyclist has been left with serious injuries and police are hunting a suspected hit and run driver after a collision at a Chesterfield roundabout this morning.

Derbyshire police say the incident took place shortly after 8am today (Sunday, July26) when a cyclist and a van collided at the Whittington Moor Roundabout.

Here is what we know so far about the incident:

The van, which witnesses say is small and either grey or silver, did not stop at the scene;

It is thought the van drove off along the A61 towards Sheffield;

The cyclist’s injuries are described as ‘serious’;

Police advised drivers to avoid the area;

Stagecoach said the 43 bus route had been affected and urged passengers to ‘bear with us’ as things return to normal;

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Derbyshire police via the non-emergency 101 number, the wesbite or social media, quoting incident 334 of July 26.
