Officers from Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said drink-driving was not the cause – and revealed the van was actually too heavy.

The unit tweeted on Sunday: “Not drunk but overweight. Loaded up with sandwiches and pasties. Weighed nearly 5t, limit is 3.5t. Two vans needed to take excess. This is what we call bread and butter traffic work.”
