Peak District climber airlifted to hospital with head injuries after equipment ‘ripped’

Edale Mountain Rescue Team were alerted to the incident on Mississippi Wall at Stanage at around 1.30pm on Friday (17 July).
“The climbers gear had ripped out causing him to hit the ground with considerable force,” a spokesperson said.

Hide AdThey added: “He was found to have head and wrist injuries. His helmet took most of the impact.”
An air ambulance was requested as the man’s condition started to deteriorate and landed at Hooks Carr, where he was re-examined and found to be stabilising.
A spokesperson said he was transferred to Helimed 54, the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland air ambulance, for an onward journey to the Major Trauma centre at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team also assisted with the rescue.
