A man is in hospital with serious injuries tonight after being attacked on a Derbyshire street.

Police said the ‘serious assault’ happened on the canal path off Bennett Street, Long Eaton, at 5.20pm.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Residents will see an increased police presence this evening as enquiries continue and a number of roads are closed in the area.

“Anyone who has any information about the incident to contact us on 101.”
