The town's branch was one of 30 to shut yesterday after the high street company plunged into administration.

Almost 50 BHS stores have already closed this month.

Nationally, a total of 5,000 BHS workers face losing their jobs.

On Facebook, Derbyshire Times readers were sad about the closure and sympathetic to the staff affected.

Linda Leishman said: "As much as I liked the shop, it's the dedicated staff that I feel for.

"They didn't know what was happening for months but they all still continued to smile.

"I wish them lots of luck in finding something else."

Hannah Booth said: "I feel so sad for all the staff.

"It is such a shame that all these great shops are shutting to make way for more budget shops."

The demise of BHS is the biggest failure on the high street since that of Woolworths in 2008.

Experts say a number of reasons - including the company's debt, pension deficit and 'old-fashioned' offering - led to BHS's collapse.
