Charity plea for your vote

The project aims to heklp people better manage their money and avoid geting into finnacial difficulty

Chesterfield Citizens’ Advice Bureau is hoping to win a share of £2million being donated to good causes through the NatWest Skill and Opportunities Fund.

Grants of up to £35,000 are available for good causes and after impressing judges, the local CAB team have reached the shortlist and a public vote on who will receive the money.

They are now appealing for across Derbyshire to vote for their project, which is designed to help people improve their financial skills.

Their funding bid explains: “We need you to support our Money Skilled, Living Well project. The aim of this project is to improve the lives and wellbeing of disadvantaged people in North Derbyshire by improving their financial capability.

“Through the project we will provide accredited volunteering opportunities, which will provide the basis for participants to secure further training, employment and self-employment.

“In total, the project will improve the skills of 10 volunteers and will also reach around 200 disadvantaged local people, who are disabled, have limiting long-term health issues and/or are socially excluded, helping to improve their financial capability and wellbeing.

“Specifically, the funding will let us employ a full-time money coach; to support volunteering and to pay essential service-delivery costs to kick-start this vital service for the community.”

A spokesperson for Chesterfield CAB added: “This is a new one year project which would enable us to help 200 of the most disadvantaged people within our local community and enable a dozen local volunteers to gain new transferrable skills.

“ It would further one of the Bureau’s main objectives in improving health and wellbeing with local residents and developing resilience.”

Chesterfield Citizens Advice Bureau was set up in 1987 to help local residents to resolve any legal, financial or other problems.

They aim to provide free, confidential and impartial advice – and in 2015-16, they provide support to 6,136 local people, dealing with a total of 22,854 issues.
