Brave diabetic boy runs for charity

Brave diabetic boy Bradley Richardson, ten, and his younger brother Owen, six, completed a self-organised walk-run event on Easter Sunday.

The lads, of Ripley, covered more than ten miles for the challenge, and have already raised a whopping £832 for their efforts.

Mum Katrina Snowball, of Cavendish Drive, said: “I am extremely proud of my boys. The satisfaction they had at the end knowing they are helping to find a cure for diabetes was remarkable.”

Bradley was diagnosed with type one diabetes in August 2013, and is insulin dependent.

Katrina added: “It has been a battle at times, because of his diagnosis. But we are a strong family and get through ti together.”

The boys started their route in Ripley, ran down to Marehay, through to Heanor, round Shipley Park and back to Heanor.

They were raising funds for Diabetes UK, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation,

Bradley, who attends Ripley Junior School, said: “I found the run quite easy until eight miles, when I steared feeling very tired and my legs got tense. I’m very proud we have raised so much money.”

Commenting on his condition, Bradley said: “I do have injections, and I need to check my blood sugars, but I have got used to it now.”

Katrina and the boys sent thanks to family and friends that attended. They also thanked the school, staff at Ripley Hospital, Jax Nails.
