Firefighters condemn Peak District camp fire during lockdown as irresponsible and dangerous

Last weekend Buxton crews were called to a camp fire in Goyt Valley.
Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service tweeted: “Irresponsible and dangerous, with total disregard for the wildlife they could have destroyed or those clearing up after them! Small fires can quickly spread! – don’t do it.”

Peak District bosses have urged the public to keep away from the popular beauty spot during lockdown.
Under the Coronavirus Act legislation police have the authority to ask people about their journeys and activities, and to issue fines or make arrests if public health is being put at risk.
Officers have the power to issue fines to those flouting the stay-at-home government rules and people can even end up in court if those fines are not paid.
