Eight further further Covid-19 deaths recorded in Chesterfield as 740 more die in England

A further eight patients have died at Chesterfield Royal Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

The total number of people who have died at the trust now stands at 55.

Nationally, a further 740 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of deaths in hospitals in England to 12,396.

Patients were aged between 28 and 103, and 40 of the 740 patients (aged between 45 and 93 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

However, the true number of deaths is thought to be much higher due to the number of people dying in care homes and hospices, that are not included in the figures.

The UK government is today expected to extend the country’s lockdown by three more weeks.

Foreign secretary Dominic Raab, who has been deputising for Boris Johnson, is expected to make the announcement following a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee.
