The Chesterfield Waterside development has seen a ceremony mark the completion of one aspect as a planning application was submitted seeking permission for another.
The £340-million scheme – described as the “most ambitious project the town has ever seen” – will see the former Arnold Laver and Trebor factory sites off Brimington Road redeveloped into housing, offices, shops, bars, a hotel, multi-storey car park, apartments and canal basin marina.

Peter Swallow, Chesterfield Waterside chairman and managing director of Bolsterstone Group, which is leading the project, had the honour to tightening the bolt.
He said: “The ceremony represents another milestone in the construction of One Waterside Place and is a further step forward in the creation of a quality, modern office environment in Chesterfield; one that meets the demands of the most discerning occupiers in the post-Covid economy.
“Construction is on track to be completed later this year, with tenants already committed to moving in to some of the floors of this ‘Grade A’ office building.

Scheme made up of five distinct areas
At the same time, a planning application has been submitted to Chesterfield Council seeking renewed permission for the next stages of the development, with a multi-storey car park next to One Waterside Place earmarked for construction next.
This is likely to be followed by a hotel, at the junction of Brewery Street and Brimington Road, and apartments beside the already-completed canal basin.
Elsewhere in the project, Avant Homes is progressing with the building of 173 two, three and four-bedroom houses in the Waterside Quarter.

Station Place, “the gateway to Waterside from Chesterfield railway station”, completes the development with a hotel, offices, apartments and a car park. Shops and cafes will surround the area, creating an urban square.
