Nando's Chesterfield branch issues statement as 50 restaurants close because of supply problems

The peri-peri chicken maker, which operates about 400 sites around the country, also said it would lend some of its staff to its suppliers to help ‘get things moving’ again after its business was rocked by shortages.

Responding on social media to customers complaining about their local Nando's being shut, the company said that ‘the UK supply chain is having a bit of a 'mare right now’.

However, the Chesterfield restaurant, at the Alma Leisure Park, on Derby Road, remains open as normal for eat-in and collection.

A Nando’s spokesperson said: “The UK food industry has been experiencing disruption across its supply chain in recent weeks due to staff shortages and a number of our restaurants have been impacted.

"However, since Monday, a team of our brilliant Nandocas have been supporting our key suppliers onsite – working in partnership to help get things moving again, and this has already had a positive impact on affected restaurants.

"From this Saturday, as a result of the hard work behind the scenes, it is our intention that all of our restaurants will be open again, and all our customers can enjoy their favourite PERi-PERi chicken.”

Food supplies have been hit this summer by delays at ports, freight and shipping services triggered by Brexit.

Swathes of workers have also been forced to isolate after being pinged by the NHS Test and Trace app.
