Samantha heads for South Pacific

AN acclaimed production Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific has followed a sold-out, Olivier-nominated London season with a record-breaking national tour, and is due to visit the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, from May 29-June 9.

Leading the company in the starring role of Nellie Forbush is former EastEnders favourite Samantha Womack.

As well as her numerous television credits, Samantha has an impressive background in theatre, from Michael Grandage’s Guys And Dolls to Sir Peter Hall’s Betrayal.

Samantha will star opposite former Phantom of the Opera star, Matthew Camelle as Emile de Becque, Daniel Koek as Lt Joe Cable and Alex Ferns as Luther Billis

The producers are also delighted to announce that one of the stars of the First National US Tour, Jodi Kimura, will be returning to the role of Bloody Mary in the UK Tour.

As well as her critically acclaimed run in the First National US Tour of South Pacific, Jodi has performed in many productions across both musical theatre and opera.

Considered one of the finest musicals ever written, the score includes Some Enchanted Evening, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, Bali Ha’i, I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy, Younger than Springtime, Happy Talk and There is Nothin’ Like a Dame.Set on a tropical island during World War II, this is the sweeping romantic story of two couples, threatened by the realities of war and by their own prejudices.

Its portrayal of Americans stationed in an unfamiliar culture in wartime remains as relevant today as when it first thrilled audiences.
