The godfather of alternative comedy is back in his first full-length stand-up show in 17 years following two sold-out London seasons, and is heading for Derby.
Alexei Sayle will be on stage at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre on Tuesday, October 29.
Metro said of his show: “Fearlessly funny… thrills and surprises at every turn.”
While the Guardian said he was : “Splenetic and splendid”.
Until this year the last full-length comedy gig he had performed was at a large theatre in Perth, Western Australia, in 1996, he has revealed.
Sayle said: “At the time I did not realise it was going to be my last gig for 17 years: I did not make a big decision to deliberately stop, rather I simply failed to start again.”
He added: “Rather than take advantage of this outbreak of comedy I spent nearly a decade and a half as a serious author selling many books and only just failing to get nominated for several prestigious literary awards, but this year at the age of 61 I have been in front of the microphone again.”
Tickets are priced at £16.25 and the show is for those aged 15-plus. For more information contact the box office on 01332 255800.
