DANNY Bryant’s Red Eye Band will making a welcome return to The Flowerpot in Derby on Friday, April 5.

One of the finest young blues guitarists, who has gained recognition and respect from audiences and fellow performers alike, Danny Bryant is currently touring Europe to promote his new live album Hurricane, released on May 6.

Bryant is building a formidable reputation as a leading British blues rock guitar heavyweight. Recorded as a power trio, the new album was produced by Richard Hammerton (Manic Street Preachers) and showcases the evolution of Bryant as guitarist and songwriter. It bursts with power-fuelled originals, groove-driven up-tempo songs, and soulful blues ballads.

Support on the night is from blues outfit The Liam Tarpey Band.

On Saturday, April 6, the visitors to the King Street venue are Merry Hell, the leading roots rock band, now touring the country in support of their new album Head Full Of Magic, Shoes Full Of Rain.

Launched on the world in 2011, Merry Hell is an eight-piece band combining male and female vocals with mandolin, electric guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, plus the intention to revolutionise the genre.

The roots of Merry Hell are in The Tansads, for the many who knew them possibly the finest band never to have made it big.

From their early 90s origins, this nine-piece quasi folk-punk-rock orchestra enjoyed a career that spanned five albums and countless tours. Though they went their separate ways for some ten years, The Tansads were again brought together, in 2010, for three triumphant reunion gigs at their spiritual home of The Citadel, St Helens, the venue for their celebratory live album, Drag Down the Moon.

As the dust settled on the reunion shows, the decision had already been made that a revitalized band should take the spirit of The Tansads forward into a new era. So Merry Hell was raised.

Finally, on Thursday, April 11, there will be a gig by Steve Conte And The Crazy Truth.

The band is fronted by the current guitarist in the Michael Monroe Band and the former New York Dolls main guitarist.

Working between records and tours as lead guitarist/backing singer with The Michael Monroe Band, Steve Conte records and tours with his band The Crazy Truth. Sonically, The Crazy Truth lies somewhere between The Stooges and The Stones versus Morphine and Tom Waits. The overall vibe is best described by Conte as “classic roots with a modern twist.” Support on the night comes from fast rising Derby rockers Castro.

Doors open for all three gigs at 8pm and admission is £12 for Danny Bryant’s Red Eye Band, £8 for Merry Hell and £10 for Steve Conte And The Crazy Truth.
