The Blidworth Welfare Band and organist David Redfern join forces in a Last Night of the Proms brass band and organ concert in Swanwick’s St. Andrew’s Church on Saturday, June 25.
The band originated as the Stanton Hill Temperance Band in the latter part of the 19th century, and, after alliances with a number of colliery bands finally moved to Blidworth in 1980. Under musical director Martin Heartfield, the band has had notable successes over the past two years, including a “first” in Leicester Open Second Section in 2010.
Since being introduced to the theatre organ at the age of 13, David Redfern has played no less than 126 theatre organs throughout the country, and in addition to concert and radio appearances, still plays regularly for church services.
Tickets are £6 including refreshments, available at the door, or in advance by calling 01773 605291 or 01773 541458
