A local composer has produced a new choral work celebrating a famous Nottinghamshire hero.

Songs and Legends of Robin Hood has been composed by Guy Turner, as the result of a commission by the Nottingham Bach Choir.

The 35-minute choral work includes settings of poems by Walter Scott and Alfred Lord Tennyson, along with traditional and Elizabethan texts.

The premiere of the work will be performed at St Mary’s Church, Nottingham, on June 13 by Nottingham Bach Choir.

Guy Turner said: “The process of writing the piece, which took about five months, has been a real pleasure and I am very much looking forward to the premiere: the Nottingham Bach Choir is a fine choir, and it has been a privilege to write for them.”

Guy Turner is a member of Southwell Minster’s renowned Cathedral Choir, and a freelance composer, teacher and performer.
