Male chorus makes the move to Belper venue

The flourishing BelCanto Male Chorus has now moved from its previoushome in Sawmills to the new rehearsal room at Belper Baptist Church, based on Bridge Street in the town.

This is because membership is on the increase.

The group was formed in October 2009 with seven singers (rehearsing at St Anne’s Church, Ambergate) but moved to Sawmills Village Hall in early 2010 as it expanded. Over the three years since formation, membership has grown steadily and now stands at 23, which again makes it necessary to move to a larger room.

BelCanto is a male voice chorus with a difference as its aim is to produce a more modern approach to male vocal arrangements. BelCanto is looking to the future in producing modern and contemporary songs, many arranged by musical director Andrew White, who has a business in the town. The group sings a wide range of music, taking in songs from the musicals, Elvis, The Beatles, The Troggs, The Monkees, Beach Boys, and The Who, interspersed with more traditional choral and classical music. New singers are always welcome.

Rehearsals are open so anyone can call in to listen, and are on Tuesdays, at 7.45pm. See for more.
