Get ready for the excitement of the Matlock Festival, coming to the town later this month.
The event will run from July 18-21 and has been set up by Steven Murphy from Peak Promotion and Sean Buff of Zhivago Jewellery.
Talking about their ambitious project, Steven explained: “We felt Matlock needed its own summer festival to compete with other local towns and not only bring in tourists but show the people who live in the town what Matlock has to offer.”
The four-day festival will feature live music, comedy, cabaret, food and ale, not to mention a range of children’s activities to keep younger festival goers entertained.
On the final day of the festival (July 21), the event will be taking over Hall Leys Park with a Food, Ale And Craft Festival, including upto 50 stalls with children’s entertainment, climbing wall, fun fair and much much more.
Peak Promotion, along with the venues involved, have done their best to provide all the live entertainment at no cost to the public, although there are three very special ticketed events staged at the brand new venue The Loft, located on Crown Square, directly above Little Gem.
Free programmes for the festival can be found in local shops, restaurants and bars, so please pick one up.
Steven added: “It is Matlock’s first festival so we’d really like the community to come together and help support an amazing local event.
“If you would like to be a part of Matlock Festival, whether by entertaining or with your ideas, please contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org”

Among the events being staged is one called The Gig at The Loft, which takes place on Saturday, July 20, from 6.30pm and has an array of local bands and performers: The Piracy (above right), The Indieannas (above left), The Something?, The Tides and George Baxby. Tickets are £3 and can be bought from Little Gem and Black Hippo.
n See page 24 for more.
The Piracy is a Dales’ band with a sound that is at once both instantly recognisable but yet original. Taking their influence from legendary indie bands such as Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Smiths, The Piracy are an indie rock band that will blow you away and steal your heart.
The Indieannas are a four-piece indie dance/rock band from Buxton. Having recently supported JLS at the Britannia Stadium, The Indieannas are on the verge of huge success. The band also performed at Y-Not Festival 2012 under the band name The Stand.
Formed in the valley of Matlock, The Something? are a well-established indie rock band. Defined by the passion and vigour of real-life experiences, gritty vocal narratives combine with crunching driven guitar, pounding rhythms and electronic overtones to put together a sound of retro-inspired indie anthems for a generation of today.
The Tides are a four-piece from Mansfield and George Baxby is an acoustic singer songwriter from Buxton.
In addition, The Loft hosts Nik Coppin’s Comedy Selection on Thursday, July 18, at 7pm. Tickets are £5 and can be bought from Little Gem and Black Hippo.
Nik Coppin is based in London and has been a stand up comic for more than 12 years. He has performed all over the world and developed an international cult following, having performed many solo shows at the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, New Zealand and Melbourne International Comedy Festivals, all over Australia and the inaugural Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles.
His confident, affable and energetic style of comedy is quick to build audience rapport, as he talks about subjects as wide-ranging as observations on human nature, his experiences in The Antipodes, Europe and Asia, his extensive knowledge of wildlife, superheroes, current affairs and his mixed race upbringing in London. His mother is English and his father is from Barbados.
Nik will be bringing along three other comedians who will perform on the night. Confirmed to be coming with him are Larry Dean and Mike Belgrave with another special guest on the night. Both are very accomplished comedians and won many awards in comedy festivals around the world.
