HE’S back! The Frank Sinatra of Uppertown Social Centre is to return for an unexpected gig.

At the end of last year, popular singer Don Keyworth was appearing at the centre, near Ashover, for the last time with his band, Top Country Sound.

He was greeted by a packed house of fans wishing him a long and happy retirement as, following advice from his doctor, Don was thought to be performing his swansong after a remarkable career stretches back 40 years. His association with Uppertown is almost as long, having appeared there since 1977, often filling the centre four times a year

But could Don be about to emulate Frank Sinatra, who famously had his ‘final’ performance in 1990 and then kept re-appearing until his 80th birthday in 1995? Don’s back, rumours that he had retired proved to be incorrect. He will be appearing again with Top Country Sound playing their special mix of music on Saturday, August 6.

Uppertown Social Centre hairman, Eddie Marriott said: “I was sad when I thought the December event was the last time Don would perform so it’s great to have him back. Who knows how many more times he’ll retire?”
