Classical greats are on the big screen

Showcase Cinema de Lux Derby will be presenting the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in a three-part programme, Symphonical Worlds, broadcast live via satellite from the Philharmonie, Berlin, on Friday, March 8, at 6.30pm.

The ensemble is one of the world’s leading orchestras, renowned for its epic performances.

Its current chief conductor is Sir Simon Rattle, widely revered for overseeing exquisite performances and championing contemporary classical music.

The event will feature interviews and behind-the-scenes footage before the screening of Symphonical Worlds, a tableau of three pieces featuring Mozart’s Symphony No.33 in B flat major, Wagner’s Overture to Tannhäuser and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor.

Showcase audiences can enjoy the dramatic compositions, being conducted by Andris Nelsons, and performed by the 128 world class musicians, in high definition and superb Surround Sound.
