Buxton Opera House is reliving one of the finest jazz spectacles ever, The Best of Benny Goodman’s Famous 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert, on Friday, June 24, at 7.30pm.

Regarded as possibly the finest jazz spectacle ever, the Benny Goodman Carnegie Hall concert of 1938 is revered by big band fans and recordings of that historic event still continue to sell today on vinyl and CD. It’s thanks to Benny that jazz was elevated from dance halls, clubs and dives to the concert platform and that iconic evening in New York City in January 1938 played a very special part in the history of jazz and big band music.

Now Pete Long And His All-Star Goodman Orchestra (believed by many critics and fans to be the best imitators of the Goodman sound in the business) recreate this classic event all over again, almost note for note. Audiences will witness such greats as Don’t Be That Way, Sometimes I’m Happy, Honeysuckle Rose, One O’Clock Jump – and a huge chunk of history.

Tickets for The Best of Benny Goodman’s Carnegie Hall Concert are priced at £17.50 and £19.50 and discounts are available. Call the box office on 0845 127 2190.
