There’s an eagerly-awaited double bill of gigs at The Queen’s Head in Belper this weekend.

On Friday, July 12, the Chesterfield Road-based venue plays host to Steve Ignorant’s Slice Of Life, Andy T and Chris Butler.

Since becoming lead singer of legendary anarchist punk rock band Crass in 1977, Steve Ignorant (above right) has pursued an amazing recording and performing career.

Now he has decided to relinquish the Crass back catalogue and comes to The Queen’s Head with an acoustic band and a world premiere of his new project. It’s Steve Ignorant in an up close and intimate setting.

Andy T has also taken on legendary status in recent years. The performance poet toured with Crass and has built up a repertoire and versatile style over the years which he now mixes with some fine musical backing.

Also appearing will be local hero Chris Butler (above left). Don’t let Chris’s unseriousness make you think that he’s not serious. Chris will be playing a completely different set with no songs repeated at this concert and the following evening’s, at which he also appears.

Doors open at 8pm. Advance tickets are available at £7 plus SAE or 7.60 from: Belper Music & Arts, 167 Far Laund, Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 1FP. Cheques need to be payable to M. Jones.

Please note that duo tickets are available for this concert and the following night at special price of £10 plus SAE or £10.60.

Then, on Saturday, July 13, Chris Butler again appears, this time in a gig featuring Blyth Power, who cover folk, rock and everything in between.

This date sees an exclusive performance by the band as they gear up for their 30th anniversary next year. Doors open at 8pm. Advance tickets available at £6 pounds plus SAE or 6.60 from the same address as for the Friday gig.
