Christmas comes to town in November with a weekend of festive celebrations starting on Friday 27 at 6.30pm when the mayor councillor Michael Missett will be joined by the Certificate of Merit Winner 2015 to switch on the Christmas Lights.

The family event, which packs the Market Place every year, promises to be bigger than ever with a live broadcast from Amber Sound FM, free children’s rides, a brass band, Christmas carols, hot food and a Children’s fancy dress competition with prizes for winners in the Under 11s and Over 11s category.

Many of the towns shops and business will be open late for a spot of browsing and late night shopping.

Members of the public have been encouraged to nominate a member of their local community who they feel is worthy of recognition for their contribution to the Ripley township and the eventual winner of the Certificate of Merit 2015, chosen by Ripley Town Council, will be presented with their award on the evening.

The same weekend sees the return of the Ripley Michaelmas Market, which was an unprecedented success last year, despite being a brand new venture for the Town.

The event, which runs throughout the Town Centre on Sunday, November 29, from 10am to 4pm, is ran by a small group of traders from within the town who are all delighted with the way the event captured the towns imagination and were thrilled when their hard work paid off with a busy, thriving market.

In addition to the market, where there will be a whole host of crafts, gifts and food stalls to choose from, there will be a barbecue from Ripley Lions Club, entertainment from Shirland Brass Band, Ripley Morris Men and the Green Garters and Old Thyme Street Organs.

Ripley Academy of Dance will be performing and a choir will sing carol around the tree. Mickey and Minnie Mouse will make an appearance and there will be street entertainers, a fun fair and many other attractions to get everyone in the festive spirit.

Many of the town’s shops will be taking part on this special day which promises to be a great start to Christmas!
