TOP folk group Diarmuid O’Leary and the Bards will be appearing in Derby at the weekend.

The group is celebrating 30 years since their number one hit song Julia at Lanigan’s Ball, which became a classic and one of the biggest selling records in Ireland, earning them a Gold Disc Award.

The group will be appearing on Sunday, May 8, at the Irish Centre in Beckett Street. Tickets are available by calling 01332 763783/332842/3317.

A key ingredient to the endurance and success of the Bards is their distinctive ability to perform a unique mixture of comedy, contemporary songs and classic ballads together with a strong and exciting instrumental dimension.

As well as the new comedy single, the group have also released a new contemporary album - a collection of 14 tracks – mostly new recordings like “If I Go Sailing”, “Why Not Me”, “Breaking The Line”, “A Soft Place To Fall”, “Time Changes Everything” and “The Way Old Friends Do” - but also included are three of their best-known songs, “Shaney Boy”, “The Old Dungarvan Oak” and “The Railway Hotel” which is the title track.
