Operatic treat on big screen

Showcase Cinema de Lux Derby presents Hector Berlioz’s opera Les Troyens, live via satellite from The Royal Opera House in London, on Sunday, November at 1pm.

Starring a world-class cast including Bryan Hymel, Eva-Maria Westbroek and Anna Caterina Antonacci, Les Troyens is opera at its most epic.

For new and established theatre fans alike at Showcase Cinema de Lux Derby, Les Troyens is one of the most fabulously rich of all operas, a tour de force of passion in music, with extraordinarily demanding roles for the principal cast under the helm of conductor Antonio Pappano.

The story is taken from Virgil’s great poem The Aeneid, and dramatizes the fall of Troy and Enée’s doomed affair with Didon, Queen of Carthage.

Celebrated director David McVicar, whose work for The Royal Opera includes Rigoletto, Adriana Lecouvreur and Salome, leads the new production of an impressive scale.

The award-winning stage and costume designer behind the London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony, Es Devlin, is responsible for the extraordinary set.

For those who cannot catch the performance live via satellite on Sunday, an encore screening of the production will take place on Tuesday, November 20, at 7pm.

With a stellar cast and the sheer scale of its story, music, passion, staging and performers, this promises to be a once-in-a lifetime experience for opera fans at Showcase Cinema de Lux Derby.
