Town is alive with the sound of music

The popular annual event will this year run from July 10-17 at venues in and around the town.

Sunday, July 10, will feature a brass band concert at Crossley Park, from 2.30pm-4.30pm, with free entry.

Later on that day, there is a Jam Night at The Holly Bush in Marehay, from 8pm-11pm. Again, entry is free.

On Monday, July 11, you can enjoy a rock night at The Regal Nightclub in Ripley, featuring Surreal Panther (pictured) with support from Shackled and Parasight. There is free entry and it starts at 8pm.

The J26 chamber orchestra perform works including Beethoven Eroica Symphony (No 3) at Ripley’s All Saints Church from 7.30pm, on Tuesday, July 12.

Tickets are £5 (U18 free).

The Regal is the setting on the same night for a free Variety Performance featuring Rhythmical Mike (Spoken Word), Edi Johnston (Comedy Uke Folk), Itty Bitty Committee (Acoustic Hip Hop), and Tazer (Sleazy Blues Rock) - The Regal Nightclub, Ripley, starting at 8pm.

On Wednesday, July 13, you can enjoy a performance at All Saints Church celebrating the music of John Denver, from 7.30pm. Meanwhile, Junction Music Shop Showcase, at The Regal, features Wild Touch, Sugar Rush and Water for Dogs. It starts at 8pm and there is free entry.

Thursday, July 14, sees Alfreton Male Voice Choir and the Whispering Winds Quartet in action at All Saints Church, from 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 (U18 free).

On the same evening, The Thorn Tree in Ripley is the venue for a gig by The Daz Kelly Band from 8pm.

Friday, July 15, will see a Schools Day event take place on the Crossley Park Stage from 1pm-2.30pm.

Sonara Singers are in concert at All Saints Church from 7.30 p.m. with tickets £5 (U18 free).

Meanwhile Waking Vegas perform at The George inn, Ripley from 8 pm.

To complete a bumper day of music, there is a Local Young Band Showcase at the Crossley Park Stage featuring The Korporation, God made Dinosaurs, Abi Wibberley and Barney Rubblz, running from 7pm-9pm. There is free entry.

Saturday, July 16, sees Race For The Prize on Oxford Street, Ripley, from 11am-1pm. Then there’s a the Party in the Park & Proms Spectacular at Crossley Park. This runs from 1pm-10.30pm and features live music from local bands/artists Josh Leverton, Courtney, Boris and the Space Cadets, Those who Knew, Licksquid, Highcroft, Waking Vegas, and Strange Trio. There will also be music from Newstead Brass and a fireworks display to round things off.

Entry is free but there will be donations welcome on the night.

The music-packed festival finishes off on Sunday, July 17, with Rom Fest at Crossley Park Stage, from 1pm-6pm, with free entry.

Featured acts are Newton Par, Pink Diamond, Airstrike, Tall Poppies, Shadow Days Project, plus headliners Syteria.

There will also be a licensed bar and food stall.

Meanwhile, you can enjoy Ilkeston Brass Band and a lunchtime roast at The Thorn Tree, Waingroves, from 12.30pm-2pm. Entry is free. There are hot pork and beef cobs on sale (plus vegetarian options and desserts!), organised by Waingroves Show. For more details call 01773 746298.

There will also be Songs of Praise at All Saints Church from 3pm. Come and enjoy the flower festival and singing together. Entry is free.

Finally, to round things off, there is an after show party Jam Night, celebrating local talent, at The Holly Bush, Ripley. It runs from 8pm until late. All are welcome and there is free entry.
