Buterley United has been attracting a large number of schoolchildren from the Ripley area to take part in its new under 11s Kwik Cricket and under 15s hardball cricket schemes.
With help from Derbyshire County Council, the club has been able to run junior sides at both levels.
A club spokesman said: “Despite starting from scratch, the season has been immensely successful, and we would like to thank Derbyshire County Council for their financial support, as it would not have been possible without it.
“With training equipment, matchday equipment and kit, coaching/first aid/CRB courses, etc. the expense is considerable in order to be in a position to enter teams and provide the right platform for local children to enjoy cricket.
“We hosted a Kwik Cricket Night recently, and that proved a success, with lots of people of Greenwich Park.”
Saturday saw Butterley 1sts’ game cancelled due to the rain. The 2nds got started against Breadsall 3rds, reaching 104-4 off 23.3 overs before the rain ended the match prematurely.
