FOLLOWING repairs carried out to the Alfreton Miners Welfare ground, the Solar Press semi final tie that had to be postponed a fortnight ago was given the all-clear.
WESTWOOD ROYAL OAK were quickest out of the blocks, and took advantage of ALFRETON VICTORIA’s fallibility in defending free kicks when first John Riley leapt high to power his header into the net and Chris Ryan doubled the advantage soon afterwards.
When striker Sean Gregory made it 3-0, the game looked to be up, but JJ McNaughton lifted Vic’s spirits when firing home just before the break.
The fight-back was short lived, however, as Mark Downing rifled home shortly after the restart before substitute Daniel Watson added his name to the scoresheet.
The best was saved until last, courtesy of a crisp volley that gave Chris Ryan his second.
To their credit, Vic battled to the end and gained some – albeit token – reward when a J J McNaughton cross was turned inadvertently into his own net by a Westwood defender to make the final score 6-2.
This was an impressive performance by Westwood that sets up a mouth-watering final with Crib Bar.
CORONATION CLUB caused an upset in the Kurburbring Bowl when handing out a 3-1 beating to nearly invincible MARLPOOL WHITE LION.
There was no fluke about the result in a game that had a bit of everything – including a good word for the officials. Tom Rimmington scored from a penalty kick and there were other goals from Richard Groves and Matt Allsopp; the latter’s coming from a punt launched from inside his own half.
Cory Bowler’s was the only reply, via a cross-cum-shot.
In Division One, Liam Brown notched a first half hat-trick as CRIB BAR went into the break 3-0 to the good over RAILWAY (Alfreton).
The second period saw Crib turn on the style as the visitors capitulated.
Liam Brown registered a fourth but even he was overtaken in the scoring stakes by Kyle Wadsworth who got a nap hand. Adam Nicholls helped himself to four goals that all oozed class, and substitute Craig Cheetham got another before goalkeeper James Baker completed Railway’s misery by converting a penalty kick in a 15-0 rout.
A much tighter affair saw SHIRLAND MW go down 1-2 to SOUTH WINGFIELD. Sean Archibald was on the mark for the home team, but a pair from Tom Bates sealed the points for the visitors.
DERBY ATHLETIC lost by the same score line when they entertained HAYLOFT. Matt Roberts got their goal but a double strike from Matthew Byard earned the visitors the win.
The goals were shared around as NORMANTON VILLAGER put HOLMEWOOD MW to the sword. Lee Fottles, Richard Lee, Newis Robinson, Paul Barnes and Craig Greaves each contributing to their side’s emphatic 5-0 away win.
NEW WHITE BULL and CODNOR MINERS shared the points in a 1-1 stalemate. In an end-to-end game in which the visitors shaded the first half and the home team largely bossed the second, Lance Woodhouse and Laurence Bond were the goal scorers.
In Division Three, NORMANTON UNITED strolled to a 7-1 win over ALLIANCE HEALTHCARE thanks in large part to a Ross Graney hat-trick. Lee Farnsworth (2), Cameron Short and Gary Rusby were the other marksmen.
RIDDINGS ROVERS meanwhile were turning over GALLOWS INN; the margin of victory 5-2.
SEVEN STARS and HEANOR COLLIERS finally settled for a share of the spoils in a match that the visitors had led 0-2 and 2-3.
Liam Smith and two tap-ins following free kicks by Will Hargreaves finally earned the home team a 3-3 draw.
SOUTH NORMANTON BLUEBELL maintained their recent good run of form as they put paid to DEVONSHIRE ARMS 4-0; Shane Fazackerley (2), Dale Carline and Callum Jenkin getting the goals.
HILCOTE MW lost again; their conquerors AMBER ATHLETIC 2-6. Jonathan Bingley and Callum Reece scored for the home team but they were undone by strikes from Ashley Edkins, Shaun Meynell (2) and Craig Buxton (3).
