Alfreton CC enjoyed another good weekend, enjoying a win in the league on Saturday and then booking their place in the final of the Marston’s Smooth Trophy on Sunday.
On Saturday, Alfreton reduced Marehay’s lead at the top of the DCCL Division One to just five points when they beat Ilkeston Rutland by 41 runs.
Matt Lineker was again to the fore as he contributed 84 to the total of 232-8 from 50 overs. Jonathon Clarke supported him well with 51 from just 39 balls, including three fours and five sixes.
Ilkeston were then bowled out for 191. Adam Burton took 5-41 and David Smit top scored for the visitors with 51.
Then, on Sunday, Alfreton took on Rolleston in the semi-finals of the Marston’s Smooth Trophy and when the rain eventually intervened to curtail the proceedings they were awarded the victory by virtue of their better run rate.
Batting first after losing the toss, Alfreton were bowled out for 187 in 34.5 overs.
A quickfire 67 from Thomas Bentley was the top score and he was well supported by Jake Simpson with 25 and Andy Gwatkin with 26.
When Rolleston came to bat, they made it as far as 109-4 in 27 overs when the rain came.
Alfreton’s reward is a place in the final against Marehay. The game is on Monday, August 26, at Rolleston CC.
