THE 2011 Belper Nursing Cup final was watched by a crowd of around 200 at Christchurch Meadows.
Last year’s winners, Swanwick Pentrich Road, opened the scoring against Belper United and followed up with another goal before half-time giving the Swans fans good reason to feel the cup would be theirs again this year.
However, it was not to be. After a fairly stern half time talk, Belper came out for the second half with determination and quickly pulled one goal back.
A penalty meant that the teams were even again and from this point, the tie swung from end to end as each side tried to gain the upper hand.
Just as it appeared that extra time and possibly penalties were on the cards, Belper snatched a late goal just before the final whistle to take the cup.
Scorers were Shane Whitmore and Jordan McRobie for Swanwick; Paul White (penalty), Blake Beardsley and Shaun Smith for Belper United.
The final raised around £500 for the supported charities this year, bringing the total to approximately £1,500 for the whole competition.
